How to get a quote using the Octopus referral code
- 1
Open https://share.octopus.energy/reed-goose-229 before beginning the switch.
- 2
Enter your postcode and choose your address.
- 3
Choose gas and electricity or electricity-only, as appropriate.
- 4
Provide actual annual usage from a recent bill where possible. If unavailable, select an estimate that reflects the home.
- 5
Review the available tariff, estimated monthly payment, unit rates, standing charges and any exit fees.
- 6
Provide the account, contact, meter and payment details requested to complete sign-up.
- 7
Save the quote and confirmation emails so the referral and agreed tariff can be checked later.
The quote is an estimate, not a promise that every household will save money. Energy costs depend on region, meter type, payment method, actual consumption and the selected tariff. Compare like-for-like annual usage rather than relying only on a headline monthly figure.

What happens during the Octopus Energy switching process?
Octopus says the quote begins with four short questions and account setup should take no more than about five minutes. Once sign-up is complete, Octopus normally handles the supplier transfer, contacts the previous supplier and provides updates. Octopus currently says it will usually switch a customer within three working days and that the process is covered by the Energy Switch Guarantee (opens in a new tab).
A customer may be asked for opening meter readings so the old and new suppliers can agree where billing changes over. The previous supplier should issue a final bill and return any remaining credit, although that final-bill process can take longer than the supply transfer itself. Do not cancel an existing payment instruction unless the suppliers’ guidance says it is appropriate.

When should the £50 referral credit appear?
The household must complete its switch and the first monthly Direct Debit must be taken successfully before the £50 energy credit* is added. Octopus says referral credit is normally applied automatically. Because processing times can vary, check your Octopus account history and contact Octopus support (opens in a new tab) if the credit does not appear after the qualifying steps.
My experience switching to and using Octopus Energy
Octopus Energy is my own household energy supplier, so this page is not based only on reading the offer terms. I originally joined Octopus through a referral code myself and received the referral benefit after completing the qualifying switch. That first-hand experience is one reason I am comfortable publishing my own Octopus referral code, reed-goose-229, for other people to consider.
My switching experience was straightforward from start to finish, and I would score it 10/10. The quote and sign-up journey was easy to follow, and the process did not feel unnecessarily complicated. My experience of using Octopus as my energy supplier has also been very positive, and I would currently rate the overall experience 10/10.
What matters to me is that the referral offer worked as described when I joined. I used an Octopus referral code, completed the switch and received the benefit. That does not guarantee that every application will follow exactly the same timeline, but it gives me direct experience of the process rather than relying only on promotional wording.
I would still recommend comparing the full tariff before switching. My positive experience and the £50 credit do not automatically mean Octopus will be the cheapest supplier for every home. Unit rates, standing charges, estimated annual cost, payment method and tariff terms remain more important than a one-off referral reward.

An excellent personal experience and a supplier I am comfortable recommending, subject to comparing the available tariff for your own home.
Who is Octopus Energy?
Octopus Energy launched in the UK in 2016 and has grown into a large international energy group. Its official company material says it powers more than 10 million homes in Britain and abroad. The wider group operates renewable-energy generation, smart-energy technology, electric-vehicle services, heat pumps, solar and business energy.
For a household considering an Octopus Energy referral code, the relevant point is that this is an established energy supplier rather than an anonymous promotion site. The referral link leads directly to Octopus’s own quote journey, and the tariff contract is with Octopus Energy.

Why Octopus appears trustworthy and reliable
- Established scale: Octopus says it supplies millions of homes in the UK and internationally.
- Regulated market: UK household-energy supply operates within the Ofgem-regulated market.
- Energy Switch Guarantee: Octopus states its switching process is covered by the guarantee.
- Direct referral journey: the reed-goose-229 link opens an Octopus-controlled quote page rather than asking for details on this website.
- Published support information: Octopus explains switching, referrals, billing and account support on its official help pages.
- Renewable investment: the group says it manages hundreds of predominantly wind and solar generators.
These are trust indicators, not a promise that every interaction will be perfect or that Octopus will always quote the lowest price. Reliability should be assessed alongside the tariff offered, customer-service needs and the experience available in a reader’s region.
What to compare before switching
- Estimated annual cost based on the same consumption figures used for the current supplier.
- Electricity and gas unit rates and daily standing charges.
- Fixed versus variable pricing and the duration of any fixed term.
- Exit fees and whether they apply to the selected tariff.
- Direct Debit assumptions and what happens if actual use differs from the estimate.
- Smart-meter compatibility and whether a specialist smart tariff requires particular hardware or usage behaviour.
- Customer-service preferences and any accessibility or vulnerability support required.
The £50 Octopus Energy referral credit is useful, but it should be treated as a one-off account benefit rather than evidence that the underlying tariff is the cheapest.
Household or business: which Octopus referral offer applies?
The account being supplied determines the offer. Working from home does not automatically make a domestic household a business-energy account.

Secondary offer
Octopus Energy business referral: get £75 energy credit*
The same referral route can also lead to the business offer. Octopus currently states that a qualifying referred business or charity account may receive £75 energy credit* after completing the applicable switch and satisfying current business-referral terms. Business pricing and contracts can differ from domestic energy arrangements, so obtain and review a business quote before proceeding.

Frequently asked questions
Ready to use the Octopus referral code?
I use Octopus Energy for my own household supply and joined through a referral code myself. If you want to consider the same route, follow the official reed-goose-229 link, enter your postcode and compare the resulting tariff before deciding whether to switch. If the tariff suits your household and you complete the qualifying switch, you should receive £50 energy credit*.
Eligibility and disclosures
* Household offer: available to eligible new household customers who begin through the reed-goose-229 referral route, complete their switch and meet Octopus’s current referral and payment conditions. The £50 reward is energy account credit, not cash.
Business offer: a qualifying referred business or charity account may receive £75 energy credit after completing the applicable switch and satisfying current business-referral terms. Working from home does not automatically turn a household supply into a business-energy account.
Octopus may change or withdraw either offer. Always check the official terms and quote before switching. This page does not state that Octopus is the ‘best’ or cheapest supplier; a referral reward does not guarantee that a tariff is cheaper for a particular household.
This page contains my personal Octopus Energy referral code. I receive £50 energy credit for a qualifying household referral or £75 credit for a qualifying business referral. The new customer receives the corresponding advertised credit under Octopus’s terms. See the full affiliate disclosure.
